The Open Blog

The golfing world is set to descend on Royal Troon for the 145th Open. The golf course is in magnificent condition despite the wet weather over the past month. Unlike previous years I won’t be attending as a spectator but as a helper in the media centre.

The media centre, situated at the back of the first tee, is a magnificent layout. It perfectly displays the infrastructure behind the greatest tournament in golf. The team may be hard at work to host the media for the coming week but they have also started on preparation for Royal Birkdale (2017), Carnoustie (2018) and Royal Portrush (2019).

The grandstands, leaderboards, LED screens and tented village create a terrific spectacle on entry into Troon. I’ve never entered a host venue without experiencing a tingle down my spine but each year that tingle increases because of the sheer scale of event.

With the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open concluding tomorrow, the atmosphere at Royal Troon will heighten and intensify by the hour.
